Wendover CC U12 v GKCC U12 - Friday 10th June

Wendover CC U12 v GKCC U12 - Friday 10th June

GKCC U12's travelled to Wendover on a balmy Friday evening for Bucks Div 1 League match. The match was played at Wendover's pretty Witchell ground in front of a large crowd of parents and supporters.

Wendover won the toss and inserted GKCC. Will Stonehouse and Jacob Rickett batted quite beautifully in a 58 run opening stand, achieved in just 9 overs. They punished the bad ball and ran their one's and two's very well. Jacob scored 17 and Will went on to retire at 33. Jacob Mitchell and Tom Parker then added to the score with quick singles and the occasional 4. Tom finished the innings off with 2 boundaries in the last over, which as you will see below, became quite important in the final reckoning. Dinil Wanni-Arichchige, Harrison West and Alex Dunn all batted briefly, but did the right thing in looking for quick runs in the last 2 overs of the innings.

Wendover made a strong start in reply and were soon at 23 after 3 overs. However, Sam Allum made an important break through in getting one of the openers out, excellently caught by Dinil, one of two catches he took on the night. Jacob Mitchell then quickly removed their dangerous looking left-handed opener. We then proceeded to bowl well, taking wickets at regular intervals. Tom Parker had the quite exceptional figures of 3 overs, 1 wicket for 3 runs. Will Stonehouse did a great job, with 3 overs 1 wicket for 6 runs. Jacob Rickett picked up 2 important wickets in an over. Alex Dunn bowled a really important wicket maiden in over 19!. Dinil too bowled excellently and started to bowl the last over with Wendover needing 9 to win. A well executed run out of the second ball of the last over, got their last man out, and yielded a win by 5 runs for GKCC.

Our spirit and ground fielding was excellent throughout and I particularly remember some excellent fielding from Alex Dunn and Rory Stoneley. I would also like to mention Harrison for his wicket-keeping. He was very tidy and clearly has potential as a 'keeper'.

So well done to the whole team. They have found it quite tough in Div 1 so far this year, but last night's performance and result shows that they can compete at this level.

Finally, my thanks to Graham Dunn for scoring and to all the parents for their terrific support.

Jon.
