Beaconsfield U12 v Great Kingshill U12 - Sunday June 26th

Beaconsfield U12 v Great Kingshill U12 - Sunday June 26th

GKCC U12 travelled to Beaconsfield for a league match, with the match being played on a Sunday afternoon. In front of a good crowd of parents, GKCC skipper Jacob Mitchell won the toss and asked Beaconsfield to bat on a slow, slightly damp pitch. The Kingshill bowlers did a very good job of containing runs and regularly taking wickets to restrict Beaconsfield to 97 for 9 in their 20 overs. Wickets were taken by Jacob (1), Tristan van de Weg (2), Dinil Wanni-Arichchige(2), Nic Stoian (1), and Sam Allum(1) together with a retirement and a run out. Tom Parker was his usual accurate and economical self and together with fellow opening bowler Jacob did well against the highly capable Beaconsfield top order. In addition to the good overs from the wicket takers, Zac Gibson bowled a tight final over (1 run) and Alex Dunn did a nice job bowling against the opposition's hardest hitting batsman. Stefan Wayne was neat and tidy behind the stumps and our ground fielding was generally sound.

In reply, GKCC got off to an encouraging start with Dinil and Zac putting on 28 for the 1st wicket. However, we too continued to lose wickets steadily on a surface where the ball stayed low and where attacking shots were difficult to time. This was particularly the case in the middle overs of the innings when we got a little behind the required run rate. Despite a hard hitting 15 from Tristan towards the end, and a couple of strong shots from Jake Randall, and scampered singles from James Timewell, we finished on 77 for 8 and lost by 20 runs.

I thought the GKCC team again showed that they are improving in this tough Bucks Cricket Board Division 1. Certainly the bowling was very competitive and there were signs of improvement in the batting too.

Thanks to all the parents for their support and to Beaconsfield for the 'between the innings treats'.
