Great Kingshill U12's v High Wycombe U12's
By Richard Bruton
High Wycombe win by 20 runs
GK gave the visitors from town club High Wycombe, with several County players in their team, a bit of a fright when the visitors batted first and found themselves 54 for 6 with accurate bowling from Dylan, Tristan and Jacob picking up the wickets and as a result of a brilliant throw from Brian with a direct hit to run out Archie Dodds, one of their County players. However a stand of 36 from the 7th wicket pair plus some aggressive running between the wickets from the lower order enabled the visitors to score 110 all out in 19.5 overs.
However Will(12) and Oscar(19) batted sensibly against some fast and accurate bowling but found it difficult to score boundaries and the pressure told when Will attempted a single from a mishandling by the wicket-keeper and was run out with a direct throw from the keeper. Oscar continued to bat well but again fell to a run out quickly followed by the run out of Sam making 3 run outs in the first four wickets to fall. The boys then found it difficult to score runs and lost 3 wickets to Archie and Billy Dodds and despite some good striking from Tristan(14), Nick(12) and Jacob(n.o.13) were unable to get close to the target and finished on 90 for 8, losing by 20 runs.
This was a very creditable performance against a strong High Wycombe side and one could see their coach was concerned as he was very active and vocal when circling the boundary during the GK innings.
Obviously a need to work on our running between the wickets and also to be a little more aggressive in our fielding to try and reduce the number of singles taken to shots hit straight to fielders.
