GKCC U11's v Ballinger Waggoners U11's

GKCC U.11's fall 5 runs short in close and exciting finish
It seemed something of a miracle that we actually played a game at Great Kingshill when all around there were very dark clouds and heavy rain in the surrounding areas.
The visitors posted a par score of 261 for 6 wkts against some accurate bowling from all bowlers but particularly from Sam, Tristan, Dylan and Jacob. Sam also took a good catch and Oscar completed a fine run out throwing down the stumps out with an accurate throw to the bowlers end. We had a few opportunities to complete more run outs but throws bouncing before the stumps instead of in to the wicket-keeper’s gloves on the full spurned these chances.
In reply the opening pair of Jacob and Oscar batted confidently and scored 31 in their 4 overs. However some accurate bowling and some naive running between the wickets found the home side down to 218 after 12 overs. Zac and Tristan despite another run out then pushed the score up to 231 after 16 overs and the last pair of Oliver and Sam needed 31 off the last 4 overs. Running well put the fielding team under pressure and with 4 fours the deficit was reduced to 6 off the last over to be bowled by Ballinger’s County bowler Ed. A scampered 2 and 2 more singles and the possibility of a win came closer. However a beauty of a delivery from Ed was too good for Sam and despite a 2 being scored off the last ball we lost the game by 5 runs and the team reflected on a very close and exciting finish and what might have been but for those rather needless run outs.
It was an enjoyable game played in a good spirit and the second time this season we have just fallen short of the total required.
