Wendover Under 11’s v Great Kingshill Under 11’s
By Richard Bruton
Great Kingshill win by 1 run in yet another close finish
Gt Kingshill(GK) travelled to the picturesque Witchell ground at Wendover and secured their second win in the league by 1 run. Wendover batted first and batted solidly and running well between the wickets against some good bowling, the standout bowler being Tristan. Sam with an accurate throw ran out their number 6. However too many extras including wides and no balls allowed the hosts to reach 255 for 5 wickets.
Oscar and Dylan opened and did well against some tight bowling but Jack and Brian lost 3 wickets and after 8 overs GK were 194 for 4. In the next over Tristan was stumped off a wide, thinking because it was a wide he could not be out – he now knows differently. However Tristan made up for this with some big hitting and after 12 overs GK were 219. Zac and Nick then batted sensibly and with good running and two 4’s from Nick took the score to 240. The final pair, Will and Sam, ran well but a misunderstanding resulted in a run out making the task more difficult. With 12 to win in the last 2 overs, more good running and a well timed six from Will and two was needed in the final over to be bowled by Wendover’s star bowler. A bye and a single from Will and all was needed was not to lose a wicket. Sam held his nerve and played a solid forward defensive shot and GK won in yet another close finish with the team continuing to fray the nerves of the parents.
My thanks to Jo for scoring.
