Winchmore Hill U11’s v Gt Kingshill U11’s
By Richard Bruton
Great Kingshill U11’s through to semi final – JUST!
Phew! Another close finish this time resulted in Great Kingshiil(GK) winning by 6 runs thanks to fine bowling from Oscar and Will in the last 3 overs.
GK batted first on a very damp pitch which meant a slow and low wicket similar to the one in the last game. Oscar and Jacob opened and put on 27 although Jacob was out to a smart catch by the Winchmore Hill(WH) keeper. Tristan, batting with Josh, played his normal innings hitting 3 fours and being out twice trying to hit more which resulted in the score staying at 227. Jack, who batted with Joe, took a liking to the short boundary on the leg side hitting 2 fours and his first ever six!
Nick and Dylan batted sensibly but with a run out of Dylan due to him on this occasion – not Nick and when Zac and Will went to the crease the score was 253. Some hard hitting by Zac with 5 fours and good running between the wickets and GK’s score ended on 290 for the loss of 7 wickets.
In reply Winchmore Hill batted sensibly with the opening pair defending well against accurate bowling from Nick and Dylan. Their next 3 pairs of batters then scored steadily with GK’s bowlers tending to be too short of a length on the slow wicket so that when the last pair went in the score was 278 for 4 wickets and WH needing 13 runs from the last 4 overs. A 4, a wide and a bye in the 17th over and only 6 needed to win. However, with only a single in Will’s next over 5 to win and 2 overs left. Oscar bowled the penultimate over and took a wicket with an accurate good length ball which made life a little easier for Will in his last over who only conceded 2 runs with a wide ball resulting in a win by 6 runs. A well deserved win with the team showing a tremendous resolve in those last few overs.
GK are now in to the semi final and will be playing Wooburn Narkovians whom defeated Beaconsfield in their quarter final with the match to be played on Wednesday July 6th.
