A much improved fielding performance and some tight bowling by our main players restricted our visitors to 117 runs for 9 wickets(incl 2 retired)
With Zac taking 3 catches and Will 1 catch and a couple of run outs with good throws from Oli Charlton and Harry Kerr it showed that the fielding practice done on the Monday training session made a difference. Dylan again bowled a tight opening spell with 1 wicket and Oli Charlton, playing up from the U12's, taking 2 for 15 from his 3 overs.Considering we only had ten players we did really well to restrict Ballinger to 117 on an excellent batting wicket.
Will batting sensibly, first of all getting acclimatised to the bowling and then accelerating with some powerful hits before retiring on 31. Zac joined Dylan before the latter was caught with a lofted drive to deepish mid on after making a solid 15 runs. After a hesitant start Zac attacked the bowling moving down the wicket against the slower bowlers and with some aggressive running between the wickets with Harry Kerr took the score to 93 before they took one risk too many and Harry was run out for 5. Tristan joined Zac with the team requiring 6 runs per over with 4 overs left.
A couple of lusty blows for 4 from Tristan before getting into a pickle somehow scooping the ball to the wicket-keeper, it left Zac to hit the winning runs with a 4 off the first ball of the 18th over.
It was good to see the boys smiling again after the match against the previous three disappointing games and hope that we can now repeat the performance in our next game against Marlow. Well done to all.
