We travelled over to Gerrards Cross on a hot balmy evening and continued our good form of the last two matches by defeating our hosts comfortably by 60 runs to avenge the heavy defeat we had at the start of the season. Will won the toss and opted to bat on a fast and bouncy pitch with a very fast outfield. Will and Oscar opened the batting and after finding the boundary Will was deceived by their opening bowler and was bowled with the score at 16. Zac joined Oscar who was regularly finding the boundary until Zac(5) was bowled with the score on 36. Oscar and Sam took the score to 55 before Oscar retired on 31. Sam was finding the boundary on a regular basis and with Ollie Holmes(6) took the score to 81 in the 10th over before Ollie was also bowled. At this stage the runs dried up with both Sam and Tristan trying to hit the ball too hard against accurate bowling instead of working the singles and twos which were available as the fielders were mainly very deep trying to save the boundaries. After both Tristan(2) and Sam(22) were out bowled going for the big shots it was Dylan(30 retired) assisted by Robert(7) and Ollie Charlton(6 n.o.) who took the score to what I considered to be a slightly below par score bearing in mind the conditions. However that proved not to be the case as we bowled and fielded with the same intensity we showed at Marlow the previous day. Dylan took a caught and bowled in the first over and this was followed by a smart piece of fielding and throw by Will and a good take by wkt-keeper Ollie H to run out their no. 3 batter. Next ball Dylan cleaned bowled their no.4 and GX were 17 for 3 after 3 overs. Sam then caught a good catch to remove their hard hitting opening bat with the score at 30. Their fifth wicket took the score to 60 after 11 overs and a win for GX was still possible with these two at the crease. However Archie then produced a superb catch diving forward to remove their dangerous looking no.6 batter, he followed this by taking two more good catches and the GX run chase was as good as over. Dylan and Zac cleaned up the GX tailenders and our hosts were all out for 77 in the 16th over giving us a win by 60 runs and also a good chance of avoiding relegation providing we put in similar performances in the last two league matches of the season.
